The State of Infographics

28 Jan

Visual content is king in 2013 and it is no surprise that infographics have increased with popularity and demand. Infographics have been around for some time, but have just recently started to gain popularity. What is behind the success of the infographic? They break down complex information into a visual and are easy to share on social media networks such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and StumbleUpon.

This infographic created by Nowsourcing, a social media company shows that traditional posts don’t have a chance against infographics sharing on social networks. Social media, business, economy, health and technology are the most popular topics for infographic creation.

Are you surprised with the takeoff of infographics?

Facebook Messenger iPhone App FREE Voice Calling for U.S. Accounts

16 Jan

Facebook iPhone Messenger

Facebook has begun rolling out a feature to its Messenger app letting users call each other over cellular data or WiFi. The feature was initially limited to Canadian iOS accounts but is now being opened to all U.S. accounts, The Verge was the first to notice the update and confirm with Facebook.

The Verge reports that Facebook Messenger iPhone app added a new free calling button for US users. It’s an initiative the company beta tested in Canada earlier this month, saying at the time that a US rollout was coming soon.

Today Facebook confirmed the call feature that has been released for its iPhone app in the US, and did not provide any additional information on the new feature and if it was planning to expand onto other mobile operating systems (Blackberry, Android) and what countries would be offered this feature.

How to use the app?

Open the Facebook Messenger app to access voice calling, open a chat with a friend and then click on the “i” button located at the top right corner. If this feature has been activated on your account there should be a “Free Call” button. Currently Facebook is rolling out these features for the next several days to all users so if you can’t use it yet stay tuned!

Will you be using this new feature to call your Facebook friends? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Top 10 Business Process Outsourcing Trends to Watch in 2013

4 Jan

El Paso, Texas (PRWEB) January 04, 2013

DATAMARK Inc., a leading business process outsourcing firm headquartered in El Paso, Texas, has named its Top 10 Business Process Outsourcing Trends for 2013.

The evolution of mobile computing and social media continue to be major drivers behind the changing face of business process outsourcing and business process management. Other tech trends that will affect the industry over the next year include The Internet of Things and the collection and analysis of Big Data, which will be used to improve business processes.

Also, the geographic advantages of locating outsourced business processes in the U.S. means domestic outsourcing will repeat as a top trend for 2013.

Below are 5 of DATAMARK’s top BPO trends, in no particular order:

1. The opening of private app stores.

As workers connect through tablets and smartphones, enterprises will distribute custom and off-the-shelf apps through private app stores. BPO/ITOs will do the same, inviting clients to visit their private stores for apps that monitor business processes and collect useful data. Easier said than done, however. 2013 will be the year where IT departments begin to figure out hassle-free ways to distribute apps to clients, contractors and authorized partners.

2. Contact centers stay social 24/7/365.

A recent study by LinchpinSEO found that customers like to engage with their banks on social media on Sundays, a day when brick-and-mortar financial services are typically closed. Customer relationship managers will have to break away from this “closed for business” mindset and post in social media networks every day of the week, every time of day. Competitive BPOs will leverage global centers and customer-contact reps with multiple language skills to deliver 24/7/365 customer service via Facebook, Twitter and other channels, bringing some to clients some “weekend peace of mind.”

3. Gamification goes social.

As we mentioned last year, gamification—using game concepts to drive courses of action—will liven up boring, repetitive business processes, as well as deliver incentives for improvement. Good enough, but in 2013, gamification will stake a place on social networks. BPO workers will post their progress, improvements and rewards on internal social media channels, adding more fuel to the competitive fire across the organization.

4. Domestic outsourcing moves beyond anecdotes.

Whether it’s domestic outsourcing, insourcing, onshoring, ruralshoring or whatever term suits your fancy, some solid data on the trend will emerge in 2013. Outsourcing business processes in the U.S. (and nearshore to Mexico and Canada) will be an attractive option as growing wages in traditional outsourcing locales such as India and China make the U.S. more competitive destination. Organizations will recognize the many benefits of being geographically close to target markets.

5. BPO makes a run for the border.

Mexico will continue to be an attractive business process outsourcing destination over the coming year. This is in part because of the advantages delivered by geographic proximity, but also because the Mexico of 2013 is much different from the Mexico of 1994. Statistics from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) show Mexico is steadily improving in many rankings, including labor productivity growth, infrastructure spending, post-secondary education enrollment and broadband access. The headline-making cartel war, while still a concern, has spared multinational business activity.

How BYOD Could Affect Business Network Security

9 Oct

It’s obvious that there are significant cost savings associated with employees using their own smartphones, tablets and laptops for work. However, the downsides are numerous and worth considering says Dominic Jones of Barton Technology, http://www.barttech.co.uk, “by not having to buy smartphones, laptops and tablets, the hardware costs are significantly reduced and, in this economy, that’s a strong incentive for many companies. From a logistics point of view, a multitude of devices are hard to support and manage, as you often can’t make the same app work on all platforms.”

The question of data integrity and security should also be raised. How can businesses manage their information and ensure that there are no leaks after the employee decides to up sticks and work for the competition, taking his device with him? The answer is simple; they can’t. In addition, using the same device for work and pleasure causes a range of security issues; where an employee could visit the wrong website providing access to work-related files. Dominic also comments, “I honestly don’t think that BYOD will become widespread, especially in larger organisations who take security and industrial espionage very seriously.”

Even more importantly, BYOD can’t be implemented realistically across the business because not all of your staff will own state of the art portable devices, fit for enterprise use. BYOD could create differences between employees and ostracise those who can’t afford the latest tablet or smartphone and for this very reason, salaries are never spoken about between employees. This will undoubtedly affect productivity and data security, which makes the Bring Your Own Device trend as unpalatable as its acronym.

BYOD needs to be seriously considered before implementation and this is where Barton Technology specialises in our unique consultative approach to the subject. With years of experience in safeguarding businesses operations whilst maintaining the correct balance of BYOD they can ultimately save you from making expensive and damaging mistakes. Tellwut.com Online Survey Reveals Digital Natives’ Technology Habits

11 Sep

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) September 12, 2012

Digital natives are those people who grew up with technology as a part of their daily lives while people who didn’t grow up with it are known as digital immigrants. A recent Tellwut online poll found that 40% of users now spend five or more hours a day online with 17% claiming ten or more hours on average.

With the rise of social media and the availability of smart phones, tablets and laptops, we now tweet to our friends and update our Facebook status while watching our favorite show and browsing a blog. The same poll found that 44% of North Americans change the media they are focused on multiple times an hour. When the question was asked about the importance of the information being consumed, 37% thought that there was too much useless information, while slightly more, (39%) felt that even if they weren’t interested in a certain piece, someone else would be.

The emergence of the digital native generation is changing the perception of being online as an anti-social behavior. When asked how they felt about people using technology in social situations, 51% of voters stated they thought people used it too much and used it to convey too much personal information, such as on Facebook statuses. On the other hand, 32% of those polled felt that although people did use social media more than before, it wasn’t a problem as it’s a common part of society now. When asked if spending ‘too much time on the internet’ was causing problems in a relationship only 16% of the respondents said yes while more than half, 52%, said there was no issue.

When asked if they should be perhaps doing something more productive with their time, 47% of respondents replied ‘Yes’. However, with Apple now becoming the most valuable company in US history; be you a Digital Native or a Digital Immigrant, multitasking with multi-media technology is set to become the norm.

Tellwut is an online survey company providing a unique mix of both private business survey packages and an open opinion poll forum. The open forum provides voters the opportunity to vote on, or post surveys, offering online users a unique combination of survey software and a rewards program, coupled with a social network element that will facilitate dialogue, argument and conversation across an infinite number of subjects. Tellwut’s business application allows companies, associations, researchers, students to send their own private surveys or canvass the tellwut voter base.
