Facebook Blocks Vine

26 Jan

Facebook VS Vine Blocked

Social media giant Twitter has recently acquired video sharing app Vine, and shortly after this Facebook began blocking Vine. Vine is Twitters video application that has since been blocked by Facebook the ability to add and “find people” function to find friends on Facebook.

When trying to add Vine accounts there is a pop up that states “Vine is not authorized to make this Facebook request.”

Video sharing platforms like YouTube and iMovie share content in the same mode as Vine on Facebook however Vine is competing with Facebook’s video sharing  apps like Viddy.

In recent news, Twitter dropped Instagram’s Twitter card integration meaning that you can no longer find Twitter users within the Instagram app. In reality this should not be a surprise that Facebook cut off Vine. This move is the latest in the battle of Facebook vs. Twitter.

Are you surprised with these recent developments?

Facebook iPhone Messenger

Facebook has begun rolling out a feature to its Messenger app letting users call each other over cellular data or WiFi. The feature was initially limited to Canadian iOS accounts but is now being opened to all U.S. accounts, The Verge was the first to notice the update and confirm with Facebook.

The Verge reports that Facebook Messenger iPhone app added a new free calling button for US users. It’s an initiative the company beta tested in Canada earlier this month, saying at the time that a US rollout was coming soon.

Today Facebook confirmed the call feature that has been released for its iPhone app in the US, and did not provide any additional information on the new feature and if it was planning to expand onto other mobile operating systems (Blackberry, Android) and what countries would be offered this feature.

How to use the app?

Open the Facebook Messenger app to access voice calling, open a chat with a friend and then click on the “i” button located at the top right corner. If this feature has been activated on your account there should be a “Free Call” button. Currently Facebook is rolling out these features for the next several days to all users so if you can’t use it yet stay tuned!

Will you be using this new feature to call your Facebook friends? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

As Facebook Users Hit the 900 Million Mark, Food Manufactures Continue to Network

17 Aug

BROMSGROVE, England, August 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/

Facebook users have hit the 900m mark. The number of active Twitter users is expected to reach 250m by the end of 2012. More than one trillion viewings took place on YouTube in 2011, with over 70 hours of video being uploaded every minute as of May 2012.

Social media has changed how brands engage with consumers and the latest management briefing from just-food looks at how manufacturers and retailers are using the likes of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

“Companies are taking to social media with the primary aim of seeking greater levels of engagement with their customers. Furthermore, the perception exists in many quarters that businesses not using social media risk missing out on an increasingly powerful branding and promotional opportunity,”  writes briefing author Jonathan Thomas.

just-food’s four-part briefing includes analysis on why social media is now an integral part of marketing strategies, the potential of using networks to enhance brand communication but also the challenges manufacturers and retailers face.

The briefing looks at how brands use social media from supporting new product launches to assisting with marketing and promotional activity.

Retailers are also using social media to involve customers in the promotion of products and are recognising social media users are highly likely to chat to others about in-store experiences, products and promotions.

“One major effect of the advent of social media is that consumers have recognised they have a voice of their own, as well as an audience for their viewpoints,” Thomas says.

However, the briefing argues there is still uncertainty among marketers over how to make the most of social media. Surveys claim there is not a clear consensus about how best to utilise social media and there is the problem of how to measure the return of on investing in social media campaigns.

“Many businesses are still uncertain as to how to use social media for maximum advantage. There are misperceptions among business and marketing personnel about the role social media should play,” Thomas says.

The briefing features exclusive comment from brand-owners including Unilever, retailers like Sainsbury’s and social media analysts at consultants eSocialMedia and Foviance.

Comedy Central Latin America Launches Its First Online And Social Media Campaign

16 Aug

MIAMI and SAO PAULO, Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/

Starting Tuesday, August 14, Comedy Central (comedycentral.la / comedycentral.com.br) unveils its first 100% online and social media campaign. Created by Wieden + Kennedy Sao Paulo, the concept of “Continente Comedia” (#continentecomedia) aims to show how humor is celebrated in Latin America. The campaign features a spot produced exclusively for the Internet, stand-up comedians talking about Twitter’s Trending Topics and a Facebook application.

The campaign can be followed on Twitter via hashtags #CONTINENTECOMEDIA and #BRASILCOMEDIA.  Supporting these hashtags, Comedy Central Latin America will produce a series of videos in which Latin American comedians will comment on Twitter’s weekly Trending Topics.

Video monologues from local comedians in Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Argentina will be uploaded weekly for eight weeks on comedycentral.com.br and comedycentral.la. Comedians include Gonzalo Curiel for Mexico (@goncuriel), Fernando Sanjiao for Argentina (@cuestiondefer) for Brazil Murilo Gun (@MuriloGun) and Fabrizio Copano for Chile (@fabriziocopano).

“The objective of VIMN The Americas is to create relevant brands and content for our audience and Comedy Central is the perfect example of this,” said Sofia Ioannou, Managing Director Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) The Americas. “The channel reinforces our strategy of maintaining an ongoing dialogue with its viewers by offering a multi-platform entertainment and comedy brand for youth and adults,” she added.

The Facebook app, APODATOR – similar to Comedy Central’s Roast, in which a special Roastee is hand-picked to sit on the hot seat with good-natured ribbing from colleagues and comics – will allow users to poke fun at their friends and post on their Facebook wall.

“Following the great acceptance that Comedy Central has in the region,  the channel, with this campaign, aims to establish a dialogue with its audience via online and social media networks,” commented Sean Saylor, Vice President of Creative Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) The Americas. “We have a created an attractive, amusing and sarcastic campaign that includes a spot that will go viral with the support of different actions.”

Comedy Central wants to show the public that humor is everywhere in Latin America, and that Latinos make fun of everyday situations. To watch the spot “Siesta” go to: comedycentral.la/mundialdesiesta (LatAm) andcomedycentral.com.br/mundialdesiesta (Brasil).

Created by Hungry Man and directed by Bryan Buckley, the “King of the Super Bowl” according to The New York Times, the spot “Siesta” satirizes the habit of napping in the afternoon. The film narrates the adventures of the participants of the “World Nap Championship”, where they have to prove they are actually sleeping and not pretending to in order to win the prize. The project seems to have affected the scene director, who said: “Even though I was inLondon during the Olympic Games, I was not able to attend any event since I was dumbfounded with the taping of ‘Siesta.’ I said to myself, ‘What could be more interesting than this?’”

“The proposal is simple: make people laugh and remind the audience that the channel’s programming is 100% comedy,” said Guillermo Vega, Creative Director at Wieden + Kennedy Sao Paulo.

Comedy Central Latin America was launched in February 2012. Its programming is 100% dedicated to comedy. Some of the programs the channel offers are: Rob!, South Park, Ugly Americans, Happily Divorced, Mr. Sunshine, Married with Children, Dharma & Greg, Two Guys and a Girl, amongst others. Additionally, the channel includes animations, movies, TV series and Stand-Up Comedy, a genre that has increased its popularity year by year in the region.
